  • Goals for 2026

I have never been one for making New Year’s resolutions. But still, I did a little fact checking on the failure rate of people carrying out their New Year’s resolutions. What I found was quite humorous and sad. According to research at Baylor College of Medicine at the University of Delaware, 80%-90% of people who… Continue reading

  • The Travel Adventures of a Quadriplegic

I could just hop in my car and run errands or visit friends. Having a vehicle is freedom of movement. I could just take a scenic drive someplace or impulsively see a movie. This is something I took for granted as I’m sure most of you readers do also. This freedom of movement was upended… Continue reading

  • Itchy, bitchy, twitchy: classic signs baclofen withdrawals

I’ve been out of Mary Free Bed for a few weeks now. My condition hasn’t changed significantly. I still go through withdrawals while trying to wean off the oral Baclofen pills. In this post, I’ll share my experience and going through withdrawals with Baclofen and give everybody some updates. Another UTI I had my supra… Continue reading

  • dealing with clonus, spasms, and muscle tone

I discharged from Mary Free Bed on 11/12. It was supposed to be a simple surgery to replace the Baclofen pump. Instead of just an overnight stay it turned into a 2 1/2 week ordeal. The pilots are volunteers that examine spaces and provide feedback on accessibility for… Continue reading

  • A Quadriplegic Plays Golf Again

Winter has arrived but that did not prevent me from starting to golf here in Michigan. It was golf through Xbox. I’ve never been a gaming enthusiast. Evan, a Recreational Therapist at Hope Network, doubled as my caddie. He helped me get set up with some adaptation. Evan connected a tennis ball so I could… Continue reading

  • Covid free. Finally!

I’ve been physically put through the grinder the last few weeks. First I had two strange of a UTI, which required two different medications, including an IV drip for five consecutive days. For good measure, I got the ‘vid officially 11/11. I had some delusions, congestion, fogginess in the brain, fatigue. The works. As of… Continue reading

  • A visit with Esther and nature

I took it maybe my last trip to the Calvin University nature preserve on Sunday. Weather was in the mid 70s, which is remarkable in Michigan. I went to the deck and there was a mother and her two little daughters already there. One of them obsessed about putting anything in the pond. She grounded… Continue reading

  • Strategies in dealing with stress

Sometimes I just wanna have a drink. An adult one. I had a newer staff on Sunday morning. She had done my care once before but she seemed to be in a brain fog today. I have to give her multiple instructions and sometimes it still wasn’t registering. I was becoming more aggravated and it… Continue reading
