A blog about my rehabilitation and recovery from a spinal cord injury that left me paralyzed with quadriplegia.

Latest update

It’s been a little while since my last update. Part of that is because life has actually been calm the past few months.

The weather has been phenomenal here in Michigan so I’ve been getting outside before mother nature comes to her senses and hits with the cold weather.

I have been missing various items such as clothing, medical supplies, and toiletries since moving back to Sojo’s earlier this summer. Turns out another resident stole them and they were returned last week. One of the hazards of living in a residential program.

I’m one step closer to volunteering with an organization called Family Futures. I have an orientation set up for this Friday afternoon. It’s exciting to dust off my social work skills again.

Recent x-rays confirmed that I have small kidney stones already building. I just had surgery this past August to remove large stones. I’ll get with the urologist in deciding what to do. I don’t want them to build up to the point of having surgery once again.

Therapeutic recreation took me on what I call a play date with a couple of other residents. We went to Schuler’s bookstore for coffee. It was pretty fun as these guys were my age and also sports fans. We talked about the misery of being fans of the Detroit Lions for the past several decades.

  1. Being a die hard Lions fan is not for the weak.

  2. How about those Spartans! I am pumped for Family Futures! Can’t wait to hear about your next adventure in social work!

    1. Go green!

  3. I’m surprised that lithotripsy isn’t an option for the kidney stones, avoiding surgery. That outing to Schuler’s sounds like a ton of fun. How nice it is to get out and about! Love you, Jane

  4. It’s awesome that you are able to get out. Schuler’s is the best! I’m excited to hear more about your volunteering. 🙂

    1. ❤️

  5. I truly love hearing about the rec outing – I know they enjoyed you just as much. Eager to hear more about Family Futures
