A blog about my rehabilitation and recovery from a spinal cord injury that left me paralyzed with quadriplegia.

Another UTI

Sunday was not a good day for me. I had blood in my urine the last few mornings. This morning, my supra pubic catheter was clogged so urine was trapped in my bladder and unable to drain into my catheter bag. I went to Spectrum ER and was diagnosed with another urinary tract infection. Fortunately, the UTI was caught early before I became symptomatic and incoherent. I’m prescribed another round an antibiotic. A CAT scan also showed that I have a kidney stone in both bladders.

Back at Maplewood later that evening, stool leaked from my ostomy bag all over me and the bedsheet. The spare bags in my medical supplies were the wrong kind and staff had to run next door while poop kept spewing from my stoma like a volcano. Talk about being shit on when you’re down.

Welcome to the life of a quadriplegic. It is a constant flow of problems to deal with. I take it to the extreme though. It’s to the point where I am waiting for the other shoe to drop, especially with kidney stones. I drink 3 to 4 liters of water per day but this doesn’t seem to be enough. I’m concerned of developing a tolerance to several antibiotics due to the frequency of taking them.
