A blog about my rehabilitation and recovery from a spinal cord injury that left me paralyzed with quadriplegia.

My Rehabilitation Gym

The Neuro Rehabilitation Gym at Hope Network’s Sojourners program is a happening place Mondays through Fridays. A variety of programs happen simultaneously. Physical, occupational, and recreational therapists may be working with their clients. It’s an active place full of energy and hard work.

The weekend vibe at the gym is tranquil. The only noise heard are the heating units. Weekends are when the gym turns into my rehabilitation. As the photos show, the equipment are unused and it’s a large Area. The lights are off but there our plenty of windows and natural light.

It is my connection with nature during the colder months. On good days, I will see deer jump over a 4 foot Iron fence. There’s it also a small commune of cats living nearby. Couple of weeks ago, one was staring at me through the window from outside. I felt like an exhibit at the zoo.

I recline the wheelchair and will take periodic naps. I will also reflect on the past week and prepare for the upcoming week.

The gym is my gigantic office for making phone calls and text messages to friends and family. It’s my favorite place to blog. I’ll also kick back in the wheelchair while listening to an audiobook or reading articles.

I will do mindfulness practices casually observing thoughts that passed through my noggin, not getting attached to anyone of them.

Today is Sunday. Tomorrow, the gym will resume as a Neuro rehabilitation Centre full of people again.
