How to care for calluses without cutting them out

Throughout my recovery you’re having gotten going episodes of me getting over one problem and then another one develops. It happened again last month.

My foot wound on the side of my foot has healed but I now developed a callus on both my heels. The right heel turned into a blister. I was shocked by how massive it was as you will see in this picture.

Yikes!

Calluses are caused by the repeated pressure or friction against the skin. We all get them but in my case they got too extreme.

My calluses developed because my feet are constantly pressing on the plate of the wheelchair. I also wear orthotic leg braces at night.

Now I’m stylin’!

Calluses can lead to cracked heels which can become infected which can lead to pressure wounds.

We treat the heels with petroleum jelly each night. To spruce up my footwear, I now wear these Prevalon “Moon” Boots day and night to protect my heels.

I don’t need to follow up with the wound care clinic. Just keep treating and let the calluses heel naturally.

Making slow and steady progress.

Whoa! I had no idea that they had gotten so large– what a shock. So glad you are healing– sorry it is such a long, tedious process. Praying for speeder healing and getting you walking again!

    1. Slow ongoing process. Doesn’t take long to get them unfortunately
