A blog about my rehabilitation and recovery from a spinal cord injury that left me paralyzed with quadriplegia.

Hi friends. A lot has happened this past month and most of it was not good. I’ll get into the gory details of that in a future blog post. On this one, I just want to let you know that I have not fallen off the face of the Earth.

I was recently hospitalized with a bad infection and still on the rebound. I plan to do more frequent posts that are a little bit shorter. I will sprinkle a few longer ones in.

There was a freak accident this past Thursday and I wanted to share.

I’m transported to appointments through the Hope Network minivan. These vans are great because they have a simple rear entry from the rear by ramp and is a smooth ride.

But on this particular excursion, I entered the van rolling up the ramp with a wheelchair set too high. My focus was in navigating the wheelchair up the ramp. Suddenly, I felt intense pressure against my forehead. I was still moving forward in the pressure got worse. I knew exactly what was happening.

My head got pinned between the top of the van in my headrest.

Talk about a skull crusher.

I was totally caught by surprise. In my panic, I continued to drive the wheelchair forward. These babies weigh in well over 400 pounds and my forehead was stuck between the ceiling and my head rest. For a moment, I thought my neck would break again.

Somehow, my head dragged under the ceiling and made it through.

Fortunately, I only developed a bump in a scratch on my head. It was sore for a couple of days and continues to be sensitive to the touch.

The next day, we had to readjust my headrest because it bent backwards (fortunately) from my little mishap.
